Jorge Flores is from Laredo, Texas, a border town intersecting and connecting two different cultures. He obtained a Master's degree in Professional Counseling from Texas State University in 2019. Jorge has worked with people of very different backgrounds and issues throughout his career working in different agencies and private practice providing him opportunities to work with issues such as depression, anxiety, trauma, and substance issues among others in both English and Spanish and with cultural competency.
Jorge practices eclectically with a mix of person-centered, strengths-based, and existential approaches, and well as techniques such as EMDR and sand tray.
Historically he has provided animal-assisted counseling with longtime dog, Barry, who is now mostly retired. This approach has allowed him to also work successfully with more complicated issues and diagnosis as well as work well with people that are new to therapy or feeling stuck in their current process.
Jorge also practices from a place of authenticity and believes it is important to any therapeutic process, which may look like some self-disclosure around having a 1 year old son or having at 15 year old dog. Jorge is realistic and emphatic, sometimes challenging clients to think differently are respond differently while considering individual readiness and appropriateness to meet patient goals.
